Penang needs the jobs created by reclamation project

Penang needs the jobs created by reclamation project Letter to the Editor By Anak Pinang We at Anak Pinang are concerned over the statements made by Sahabat Alam Malaysia, Tanjung Bungah Residents Association, Penang Forum, Consumers’ Association of Penang, Agora Society Malaysia and Pen Mutiara that are putting the livelihood of Penangites at risk. Their demand for the cancellation of the Penang South Reclamation (PSR) project is regrettable since that would in effect lead to the dismissal of existing jobs, affecting businesses, and eliminating thousands of potential employment for the people in Penang. As previously reported, the construction work of the PSR will generate 5,000 jobs in the immediate three-year period. This will provide significant monetary inflow into Penang’s economy.

PM s call for patent waiver lauded

PM’s call for patent waiver lauded 24 May 2021 / 21:02 H. WE the undersigned organisations and patient advocacy groups strongly welcome Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s keynote address at the Nikkei 26th International Conference on The Future of Asia on May 20. We applaud him for this transformative call: “To prepare for a long century of recurring health emergencies – the temporary IP suspension must give way to a total transformation of the pharmaceutical patent system. Pausing the gears is not enough. Our obligation is to dismantle it entirely. And Asia must lead the way in opening up patent protections to produce cheaper generic versions of life-saving medicines for critical diseases, from Covid-19 to HIV/AIDS.”

Former Singapore minister George Yeo noticed by ISD

- Advertisement - In his younger days, former Singapore minister George Yeo came to the notice of the Internal Security Department (ISD), Singapore’s domestic intelligence agency, partly due to his association with the late Malaysian civil society activist Martin Khor, he disclosed in his Facebook post on April 1. On Facebook, the 66-year-old Yeo described his time as an undergraduate at Cambridge University with Martin Khor: “Martin became like an elder brother to me in Cambridge. Through him I was introduced to Marx, Lenin, Mao and the Communist Manifesto. In my second and third year, after Martin had left, I became a student leader in the Cambridge University Malaysia Singapore Association. Martin was my first political mentor. Partly as a result of his influence, I came to the notice of Singapore’s Internal Security Department.”
