KINGSTOWNE, VA Drivers in Kingstowne and throughout Virginia are finding a rude awakening at gas stations this week. Panic buying following a cyberattack and temporary shutdown of a regional pipeline has led to widespread gas shortages in the region.
As of 7 a.m. Thursday, GasBuddy reported 55 percent of Virginia s gas stations were without gasoline, slightly down from 56 percent at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam declared a state of emergency Tuesday to help the state prepare for potential supply shortages. The emergency declaration also allows state authorities to crack down on price gouging of gas and fuel.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA While the gasoline shortage has residents searching gas stations for available fuel, Fairfax County government operations won t be disrupted.
County government said in a statement it maintains its own fuel supply distributed through 53 fueling sites. The county s operation plans factor in the possibility of fuel shortages and price increases.
Gov. Ralph Northam had declared a state of emergency Tuesday to help the state prepare for potential supply shortages. The emergency declaration provides flexibility and funding for state and local governments to ensure adequate fuel supply.
