NCC warns Telecom consumers against sharing cell phone, NIN, SIM

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned telecom consumers not to share their cell phones, National Identity Number (NIN), and Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards with others.
Mr Efeosa Edehen, Director Consumer Affairs Bureau, NCC, said on Thursday at a consumer conversation event organised by the commission in Abuja that defaulters would be held liable for any crime committed with the SIM cards.
The conversation with the theme “Know Your Rights and Obligations as a Telecom Consumer” was aimed at enlightening consumers on the dangers of shearing such vital information.

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, declared that synchronisation of National Identification Numbers (NINs) nationwide was crucial to providing digital framework to combat insecurity and strengthen the economy.
Launching the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in Nigerian Telecoms Sector and Revised National Identity Policy for SIM Card Registration in Abuja, the President urged citizens to fully participate in the ongoing exercise.
This is even as the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) warned that government would not continue postponing the deadline for NIN-SIM data verification. It urged Nigerians to take advantage of the latest extension to finalise the exercise.

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has charged parents and telecommunication Consumers on protection of children against fraudsters and other criminality on the cyberspace.
The Director Consumer Affairs Bureau, NCC, Efosa Idehen gave this charge in Abuja on Thursday at the maiden edition of the Telcom consumer market conversation, at the Garki International Market, Abuja.
Efosa said though ICT plays a key role in socio-economic development, care must be taken to ensure that children pick the right information on the Internet.
