Gold hallmarking to be mandatory from June 15

New Delhi: The Centre on Monday (May 24) further extended the deadline for mandatory hallmarking of gold jewellery and artefacts by a fortnight till June 15 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal.
A committee has been formed to resolve implementation issues and ensure roll out by June 15. The government said that customers must get hallmark certified gold at earliest all across the country without any further delay. India must have the world s best standards in gold jewellery, said the government in a statement.

New Delhi, May 25 : Railways, Commerce and Industry, and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal, along with Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on Monday interacted with the industry leaders on preparedness for Cyclone Yaas.
The meeting was also attended by the senior officers of the India Meteorological Department, the National Disaster Management Authority, the Shipping Ministry, the Railways, and various state governments.
