A natural wine charter
For many years, I did not always make myself popular by repeating that there was no such thing as “organic” wine. Maybe there is, but just because someone says something doesn’t mean it’s true. There have to be rules governing organic wine, and it is the duty of the public authorities to make sure there are. Those rules are now in force so the public can sleep easy in their beds.
Organic winemaking, like organic farming, is now governed by a European regulation never mind that the protocols behind the rules are not always consistent. For self-professed natural wines the need for a charter is no less essential. A Vin Méthode Nature charter has now been approved by the French Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs, and Fraud Control and is awaiting approval from the Institut national de l’origine et de la qualité (INAO). This week, the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission (Commission) announced the hiring of Anthony Pane as Chief Counsel. Mr. Pane joins the Commission from the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA), where he managed the day-to-day activities of attorneys and advised Board/Bureaus on Bagley-Keene requirements among other things.
“The Commission is fortunate to have Mr. Pane join our team,” stated Chair Alicia Fernández. “He brings a wealth of experience working for state agencies and advising on Bagley-Keene Open Meeting Act adherence, the state law that ensures the Commission functions in a transparent manner. He will also advise the Commission on state and federal laws governing the redistricting process.”
