The number of British homes with smart meter is rising again following a lockdown slump and many more will be are receiving letters from energy providers offering the device. As the rollout continues, does it pay to install the controversial energy counter?
Smart meters have proved hugely controversial since the rollout began in 2012, with many households unsure of how safe and reliable they are. However, the Government-backed programme has shown no signs of slowing down. Even households that have declined meter will be contacted again as energy firms attempt to hit installation targets.

The government on Thursday allowed import of 17 medical devices for three months with mandatory declarations immediately after customs clearance and before sale of such products in the domestic market.
To meet rising demand in the ongoing pandemic, the government has allowed import of medical devices like nebulizer, oxygen concentrators, oxygen canisters, oxygen cylinders, oxygen generators and ventilators.
An order in this regard has been issued by the Food and Consumer Affairs Ministry. Government under the leadership of PM@ Narendra Modiji permits importers of medical devices for making mandatory declarations required under Legal Metrology Rules, 2011 after custom clearance and before sale, Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted.

Punjab CM directs procurement agencies to help farmers

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], April 28 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday directed all procurement agencies to ensure prompt lifting and timely payment to farmers through the newly introduced Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system during the ongoing Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2021-22.
Reviewing the wheat procurement progress at a virtual meeting with his Cabinet, the Chief Minister also ordered strict adherence to the Covid protocols amid the current surge. He urged all those farmers, arhtiyas, labourers, employees of procurements agencies and other stakeholders, above the age of 45, visiting the grain markets to get themselves vaccinated at the Covid vaccination camps in all 154 market committees across the state.
