Any efforts made by the city and federal government to help keep small businesses afloat have fallen short, and as a result, businesses have shuttered and jobs have been lost. According to a report published last summer by the Partnership for New York City, a third of the roughly 230,000 small businesses in the city had closed, many without plans to reopen after the pandemic ends.
