The S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 indexes extended gains in noon deals driven by a strong buying interest in auto and information technology shares. Better than expected corporate earnings in December quarter and hopes of bold economic reforms in the upcoming Budget is bolstering the investors sentiment, analysts said. The Sensex rose as much as 456 points and Nifty 50 index moved above its important psychological level of 14,600 to hit record high of 14,659.60.
Consumer goods stocks were trading in red, with the S&P BSE Consumer Discretionary Goods & Services index decreasing 43.18 points or 0.93% at 4624.55 at 13:48 IST. Among the components of the S&P BSE Consumer Discretionary Goods & Services index, Kaya Ltd (down 4.63%), Team Lease Services Ltd (down 3.79%),Jay Bharat Maruti Ltd (down 3.58%),Shalimar Paints Ltd (down 3.43%),Balkrishna Industries Ltd (down 3.37%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Balaji Telefilms Ltd (down 3.29%), Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd (down 3.25%), Tribhovandas Bhimji Zaveri Ltd (down 3.13%), Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd (down 3.08%), and Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd (down 2.9%). On the other hand, V2 Retail Ltd (up 4.99%), IFB Industries Ltd (up 4.97%), and Orient Electric Ltd (up 4.93%) turned up.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Consumer Discretionary Goods & Services index, Borosil Renewables Ltd (up 9.98%), Mayur Uniquoters Ltd (up 8.94%),Just Dial Ltd (up 4.23%),Fiem Industries Ltd (up 4.03%),Saint-Gobain Sekurit India Ltd (up 3.84%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were L G Balakrishnan & Bros Ltd (up 3.3%), JTEKT India Ltd (up 2.67%), Monte Carlo Fashions Ltd (up 2.21%), Vaibhav Global Ltd (up 2.12%), and Dish TV India Ltd (up 2.1%). On the other hand, Cantabil Retail India Ltd (down 3.25%), Rupa & Company Ltd (down 3.07%), and Karda Constructions Ltd (down 2.44%) moved lower.

The S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50 indexes closed at record highs for third day in a row paced by gains in Bharti Airtel, HDFC, ONGC, Titan and Asian Paints. The benchmarks staged a gap up opening and held on to gains on the back of a broad-based buying interest. The Sensex rose as much as 442 points to at an all-time high of 46,704.97 and Nifty 50 index climbed as much as 125 points to hit record high of 13,692.35. The markets have been hitting new highs on the back of record foreign flows into the Indian equities, analysts said.
