Notable passings of 2020: Saying goodbye to influential Kenosha area residents

Every community has its leaders, influencers, and examples of gifted and giving people. The greater Kenosha County area has always had more than its share of these people. But, time is relentless, and the past year has seen a number of these exemplars left us. The light of our community is dimmed by their loss. This is, by no means, a complete list of those people, but here are some of those giving and influential people our community has lost in the past 12 months. Gary Kaddatz Two-term trustee for the Village of Paddock Lake, Gary Kaddatz passed away Dec. 31, 2019 at age 68.

Gateway, Carthage ink transfer agreement that benefits nursing graduates seeking further education

FOR THE KENOSHA NEWS Gateway Technical College and Carthage College have forged an articulation agreement that provides students who graduate from Gateway’s Nursing program the opportunity to enter Carthage as juniors to further their education and advancement in this in-demand health care career. The agreement enables Gateway graduates to continue their education locally while saving time and money through the transfer of up to 65 credits to Carthage. Some Carthage courses will be offered online, while others will be in-person at the college. “This articulation will provide a pathway and seamless transfer of Gateway Associate Degree Nursing (RN) program students to Carthage College to pursue a bachelor of science in nursing degree,” said Gateway Technical College Executive Vice President/Provost Zina Haywood. “The number of Gateway Technical College credits that are accepted in this agreement is in recognition of the rigor of instruction and the sk

UW-Parkside secures approval for gymnasium bleacher replacement plan

KENOSHA NEWS STAFF Part of the facility and fundraising plan targeted to transform the athletics and recreation facilities at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside has been approved. On Monday, the school’s Athletic Department announced that the Sports & Activity Bleacher Replacement project was approved by the UW Board of Regents along with the State Building Commission. It’s part of the De Simone Gymnasium enhancement project planned to improve the facility used by the school for men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and other functions, such as bi-annual commencement ceremonies for both UW-Parkside and Gateway Technical College. It’s a step forward in the RangerVision 2020 campaign, which was launched in March. Phase I of RangerVision 2020 is a $5 million campaign that will enhance the Sports & Activity Center.
