Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is thrilled to welcome Leith Deacon to their team, as the Research Chair of Rural Resiliency.
Leith’s focus aligns with Gateway’s mission to promote health equity and improve quality of life among rural residents through research, education, and communication.
Deacon is currently an Assistant Professor in Rural Planning and Development in the School of Environmental Design and Rural Development at the University of Guelph. He is a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and a Registered Professional Planner (RPP).

Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is partnering with Libro Credit Union to explore how to stay local. Libro’s financial contribution of $56,800 will be used to support the research project How to Stay Local – Exploring Huron County’s Food Landscape.
In reducing food insecurity and building a vibrant local food economy, Gateway CERH and Libro Credit Union will help raise residents’ awareness towards local food in Huron County, most notably the diversity and accessibility of local food.
This project will consist of two-year study of Huron County’s food landscape that will help bring awareness of local food in Huron County.
