LONDON, ONT The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU) reported 73 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths in the region on Saturday. Windsor-Essex has had a total of 14,737 confirmed cases of the virus, including 13,888 people who have recovered. Here’s the breakdown of new cases: 26 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases 18 cases are community acquired one case is outbreak related 28 cases are still under investigation. The death toll related to COVID-19 remains at 409 people. WECHU Medical officer of health Dr. Wajid Ahmed gave the weekly epidemiological summary on Friday. Windsor-Essex has had some increase in COVID-19 case counts but the increase is still not at the level seen by the rest of the province.

Windsor-Essex to launch COVID-19 vaccinations for farm workers
COVID-19 vaccination eligibility is expanding once again in Windsor-Essex, with public health looking to shots in the arms of migrant workers on farms, as well those of some people who can t get to a clinic.

New Cases
Cases increased from 14,602 on Thursday April 15th to 14,664 on Friday April 16th and 454 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in Windsor-Essex.

The Health Unit says 19 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 7 cases are community acquired, and the acquisition sources of 36 cases are still being investigated by the Health Unit’s nursing staff.
The Health Unit says 380 preliminary or confirmed variant of concern cases have been identified to date (an increase of 14 identified since yesterday).
