Caltrans will provide millions in funding for local roadway safety projects

–Caltrans awarded more than $227 million this week to fund safety projects designed to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries on city and county roads. Funding is provided through the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program. “Safety is always our number one priority,” said Caltrans Director Toks Omishakin. “These projects will enhance systemwide safety features, including expanded access to protected walkways and bikeways, and will move us closer to our goal of reducing serious injuries and fatalities on California roadways.” Projects approved today in Caltrans District 5 include: Systemwide traffic signal upgrades in the City of Goleta. Citywide signal safety upgrades at intersections throughout the City of Santa Cruz.

Michael Semple HOWLAND It is an intersection where many accidents, including fatal ones, have taken place over the years and now the Ohio Department of Transportation is planning changes to improve safety at state Route 82 and Howland Wilson Road. To help plan for the $1 million intersection project set to begin in 2025, ODOT is seeking public input with an online 11-minute pre-recorded presentation on the project available at http://www.publicinput.com/TRU109521. Ramon Marsch with ODOT District 4 said the virtual open house began Thursday on the proposed project, which is in the preliminary engineering phase that includes surveys, environmental studies, engineering and preliminary design tasks. Completion of the preliminary engineering phase is expected this winter.
