As consumers demand more sustainable goods, the number of environmental claims made by companies is rising and with it, greenwashing , where companies exaggerate their environmental credentials to win over shoppers. Looking into green claims, mostly by online stores and also some traders websites in November 2020, the European Commission and national authorities found the problem was rife.

The Consumentenbond, an association that represents consumer interests, has been flooded with reactions about people’s recent holidays in the past three weeks. The majority of people who had concerns, 1116 consumers, were upset about how their flight cancellations were handled, 616 had gripes about package holidays, while 394 were upset about accommodation providers. However, a fifth of the 2,600 responses were actually compliments about how holiday providers handled the pandemic. Most people complaining about flights felt it took too long to issue a refund for cancelled trips, particularly if they had booked via ticket websites run by firms including Travix, which is behind Budgetair, Cheaptickets.nl and Vliegwinkel.nl, says the Consumenbond. On Nov. 17, 2020, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) cleared the acquisition of telecom operator Simpel by rival operator T-Mobile Netherlands (T-Mobile). Over its fixed and mobile networks, T-Mobile offers consumers various services, such as telephony, broadband access, and television. Simpel sells mobile-telecom services, such as sim-only plans for mobile phones. For its mobile-telecom services, Simpel uses T-Mobile’s network, as do several other operators.
