Various stake holders in Sebeya project are mobilising for long term conservation of River Sebeya zone that spans through districts of Rubavu, Ngororero, Rutsiro, and Nyabihu in Western Province.
During the rainy season, River Sebeya is known for turning into a destructive monster as water from the mountains bursts the river banks and washes away nearly everything along its path in these four districts. Lives are lost, crops washed away, houses destroyed and livestock also lost- this is how River Sebeya can get deadly.
However, the government of Rwanda through Rwanda Water Resources Board (RWB) came up with an initiative that aims at fixing the destructive nature of River Sebeya and turning it into an opportunity for those living within its catchment area.
Climate Investor Two joins Damen to fight invasive species in ballast water
Climate Investor Two has approved an investment that could amount to 24.5 million euro to support the lease of Damen’s portable ballast water treatment solution InvaSave to customers in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Climate Investor Two (CI2) is a financing facility mandated to invest in water, sanitation and ocean infrastructure projects in emerging economies. It enjoys cornerstone support from the EU and the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD). The consortium that manages the 160 million DFCD also includes World Wide Fund for Nature Netherlands (WWF-NL), Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV) and Entrepreneurial Development Bank, FMO.
Damen gets funding to lease mobile BWTS in emerging markets
Climate Investor Two (CI2) has approved an investment that could amount to
€24.5 million (about $29.3 million) to support the lease of Damen portable ballast water treatment (BWT) solution InvaSave to clients in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
CI2 is a financing facility mandated to invest in water, sanitation and ocean infrastructure projects in emerging economies.
It is supported by the EU and the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development (DFCD). The consortium that manages the €160-million DFCD also includes World Wide Fund for Nature Netherlands (WWF-NL), Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), and Dutch entrepreneurial development bank FMO.

Veggies 4 Planet and People is funded by the IKEA Foundation to improve the income of youth and women through sustainable practices in the vegetable business. The project has been funded 6 million euros over 5 years in Ethiopia and Kenya. The program focuses on helping the women and youth farmers by linking them around big cities such as Addis Ababa, Nairobi and Kisumu. The project plans to connect the producers around urban cities, creating short linkages and supply chains to increase efficiency between growers and consumers; improve information flow; and boost trust between consumers and producers.
