Liquor license in question after minor served at Omaha bar was in high-speed crash

Reece Ristau Omaha World-Herald It was Christmas night 2020, and six friends, all underage, were at The Good Life Sports Bar & Grill near 180th and Pacific Streets, snacking on nachos, drinking beer and taking shots of alcohol. As the night came to a close, at least one of the minors drove away from the bar and got into a high-speed crash in the Millard area, breaking three vertebrae and suffering other injuries. In the following days, Omaha police officers, armed with a subpoena, attempted to obtain video from the bar to determine whether staff had followed the law in checking the minors’ identification. But police said they faced resistance from owner Chad McMahon and other employees. By the time the equipment had been seized, video from that night had been deleted, according to police.

Nebraska high court rejects appeal in Scottsbluff murder

Nebraska high court rejects appeal in Scottsbluff murder May 21, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) The Nebraska Supreme Court on Friday rejected the postconviction appeal of a man serving life in prison for the brutal stabbing death of his girlfriend in 2017. Lucio Munoz, 69, had argued in his postconviction motion that his trial and direct appeal attorneys were so ineffective that it violated his right to fair trial. When a lower court rejected his motion without an evidentiary hearing, Munoz appealed. On Friday, the state’s high court ruled that the lower court was right to dismiss the appeal without a hearing, saying Munoz failed to show he had any new evidence or information that would have changed the outcome of his conviction.
