Vaccines expected at 112 Nebraska facilities next week By GRANT SCHULTEDecember 16, 2020 GMT OMAHA, Neb. (AP) More than 100 Nebraska hospitals and health facilities are expected to receive a new coronavirus vaccine next week, but the state won’t be getting as many overall doses as initially projected this month because of shipping delays, state officials said Wednesday. Officials said the state will get 32,400 doses of the vaccine from Moderna, assuming that the company’s drug wins federal approval on Thursday. Those doses will go to 112 Nebraska hospitals, health centers and health departments, including many in rural areas. “We are ready to accept those shipments,” said Angie Ling, incident commander for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Michael Everhard, of Fonda, died June 18, three weeks after he contracted the virus. His family contends in a lawsuit that Tyson didn t implement proper safety precautions to protect Everhard and other employees from the virus. Several Tyson executives at the plant are also named in the lawsuit, which was filed on behalf of Everhard s three children. Covid Infections Continue To Spike In State Prisons

Credit ACLU of Nebraska Even as a vaccine began trickling out to states this week, Nebraska s prisons continue to struggle with the spread of the coronavirus. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says 18 staff members across the state s prison system have tested positive for the virus since the end of last week. On Saturday, the department said 11 staffers had tested positive. Another three infected staffers were announced Sunday, and late Monday, the department said four more staffers had tested positive. The latest release brings the total number of prison employees who have tested positive to 409 since the outbreak began. The department s website says that as of Friday, 786 inmates had tested positive for the virus and six inmates have died.
