The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter made a tricky landing to fly a girl with serious injuries to Nelson Hospital.
A Marlborough Sounds girl has serious injuries after being in a quad bike accident. The 12-year-old girl was flown to Nelson Hospital by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter on Sunday afternoon after coming off the quad bike she was riding in Resolution Bay, said helicopter pilot, Colby Tyrrell. Tyrrell said it was a pretty difficult landing, one that was expected to be a winch “but we managed to land on a pretty confined grassed area on the property – about as confined as it gets”.

A fire crew from Renwick arrived shortly after by boat, having left from Havelock. It appeared a compressor had exploded in the hull of the boat. The crew of four had then closed a hatch, so any fire from the explosion was likely extinguished by the lack of oxygen, Frisken said. “There was no fire when we arrived. We were just checking through everything, making sure there was nothing alight.” The fire crew were able to depart the boat, on the eastern side of the bay, by about 11am.
Stuff understands the crew member injured had serious burns on his arms, chest and face.
