Vaccinations resume as not-quite-historic snowstorm fades; 10 inches in Milford | News, Sports, Jobs

Feb 6, 2021 BOSTON (AP) Coronavirus vaccination sites across the Northeast ramped back up Tuesday after a two-day snowstorm that also shut down public transport, closed schools and stranded travelers with canceled flights. Some officials said that since vaccine supplies were thin to begin with, they didn’t anticipate having big problems getting caught up on distribution after a day or two of cancelled appointments. In New Jersey, travelers at Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday described being forced to endure widespread disruptions. Keno Walter-White said he got stranded at the airport after his flight was canceled and bus and tram services were suspended.

Musk s Internet-from-space subsidy at risk as rivals protest

(Feb 5): The U.S. Federal Communications Commission faces pressure from rural internet service providers to deny a planned US$886 million subsidy to Elon Musk’s SpaceX for beaming broadband to underserved areas from outer space. Even before winning a competition for the funds, SpaceX had set up its service and begun launching satellites. More than 1,000 of the Starlink craft are now aloft, providing service to test subscribers. The company says its system “is uniquely positioned to deliver high-quality broadband service to the hardest-to-reach rural Americans.” But that hasn’t stopped complaints about it winning a competition for subsidies from the FCC’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund, in part because the service was being built without the aid and isn’t limited to rural areas. The planned awards to Space Exploration Technologies Corp., as it’s formally known, and to other companies have lawmakers raising questions about the entire US$9.2 billion program.

Inside Scoop: Pens Support Staff Going Above and Beyond by Michelle Crechiolo @PensInsideScoop / Penguins Team Reporter On Thursday, the Penguins returned to practice as usual at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex. It was a welcome return to some semblance of normalcy after a road swing through Boston and New York City filled with distractions, uncontrollables and inconveniences - from injuries to inclement weather to COVID-related issues - that made it feel more like nine years instead of nine days. The players can t say enough about the job the support staff - across the medical, training, strength and conditioning, hockey operations, communications and video departments - has done to step up and keep everything running smoothly through all of the moving parts so that they can just focus on hockey.
