Four COVID-19 deaths on Friday (05); total fatalities at 343

Share: COLOMBO (News 1st): The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that four (04) COVID-19 deaths were reported in the country on Friday (Feb. 05), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 343. The details of the deceased are as follows: 01. A 75-year-old male from Colombo 03, who passed away on 2nd February 2021, at his residence. The cause of death is mentioned as COVID pneumonia and high blood pressure. 02. A 89-year-old male from Nawala. He was transferred from the Nevil Fernando Hospital in Colombo to the IDH, where he died on 4th February 2021. The cause of death is mentioned as COVID pneumonia, damaged kidneys due to acute kidney disease, blood poisoning and shock due to blood poisoning, chronic heart disease and acute diabetes.

Accordingly, the total number of deaths due to Covid-19 infection in Sri Lanka is 273. 01.The deceased is a 68-year-old male from Aranayake. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid-19 virus and transferred from Base Hospital Mawanella to the Teaching Hospital Anuradhapura where he died on 18.01.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as an acute respiratory tract disease caused by Covid pneumonia. 02.The deceased is a 48-year-old female from Colombo 06. She was diagnosed as infected with Covid-19 virus and transferred from a private hospital in Colombo to Nevil Fernando Hospital where she died on 17.01.2021. The Cause of death is mentioned as a heart attack with Covid-19 virus infection.

Tourists could come to the south, east and northwest from next month; under health guidelines

By Damith WickremasekaraView(s): The Government is planning to open the country’s borders for tourists, but will confine them to coastal areas in the south, east and the northwest of the country. The details on reopening of the country for the tourism sector were discussed on Friday at a meeting presided over by Basil Rajapaksa who has been appointed to chair the Presidential Task Force in charge of Economic Revival and Poverty Eradication. The Health Ministry has been told to draft the required health guidelines. The moves come in the wake of intense lobbying by the tourism sector because of heavy losses incurred over the years, especially this COVID-19-hit year.
