Kolkata: West Bengal has reported its first case of a mutant coronavirus strain that surfaced in the United Kingdom, a senior health official said on Wednesday. The patient, the son of a senior official of the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, tested positive for the mutant strain VUI-202012/01 after returning from London, the official said.

Bengal has reported its first case of the mutant coronavirus that has been detected in the United Kingdom, a senior health official said on Wednesday.
The patient, the son of a senior official of the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital, tested positive for the mutant strain VUI-202012/01 following his return from London, the official added.
“The youth is undergoing treatment at the state-run hospital s super-specialty section. He is under observation. We have advised all those who have come in contact with him to isolate themselves,” he told PTI, adding that the mutant strain is believed to be more contagious than the existing one.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], December 30 (ANI): West Bengal has reported its first case of a mutant coronavirus strain that surfaced in the United Kingdom, a senior health official said on Wednesday.
The patient, son of an official of a medical college, tested positive for the new mutated strain after returning from the UK, he added.
The patient was under treatment at a government isolation facility in the city after being tested positive for COVID-19 at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport upon his return to Kolkata 10 days ago.

× West Bengal has reported its first case of a mutant coronavirus strain that surfaced in the United Kingdom, a senior health official said on Wednesday.
The patient, son of a senior official of the state Health Department, tested positive for the Variant of Concern 202012/01 (VOC-202012/01) mutant coronavirus strain after returning from London 10 days ago, the official said.
“The youth is undergoing treatment at the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital’’s super-specialty section. He is under observation. We have advised all those who have come in contact with him to isolate themselves,” the official told PTI.
