As per the recommendation of the Hon ble Prime Minister, the current House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament has been dissolved and the first phase of the election has been fixed on Friday, April 3 and the second phase on Monday, April 11 , the President s office said. She dissolved Parliament as per Article 76, clause 1 and 7, and Article 85 of the Constitution of Nepal, according to a notice issued by Rashtrapati Bhawan. The President has announced mid-term general elections from April 30 for the first phase and May 10 for the second phase. The surprising development unfolded during an emergency meeting called by PM Oli. The meeting was attended by the council of ministers and the cabinet recommended the dissolution of the country s parliament.

Parliamentary elections will be held on April 30 and May 10, according to a statement from President Bidya Devi Bhandari s office. Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli decided to dissolve Parliament at a Cabinet meeting Sunday and immediately presented his recommendation. Oli became prime minister after his Nepal Communist Party won elections three years ago. Oli s party and the party of former Maoist rebels had merged to form a strong communist party to win the election.
