County Council launches Be Proud, Be Sound campaign Cork County Council are appealing to people to keep Cork clean.  The local authority have launched the Be Proud, Be Sound campaign ahead of the summer to ask people to leave no trace when they visit popular tourist spots.  Councillors have called for County Hall to install more bins and public toilets at beaches after reports of long queues, littering and full bins at the weekend.  Council Chief Executive Tim Lucey has ruled out the provision of more bins and is urging people to be responsible. Cork council in row with Minister over plan for €100m retail centre

  Cork County Council has brought a High Court challenge over a Minister’s direction that it annul a change to its development plan which provides for a €100 million retail “outlet centre” in the east of the county. The challenge, to be heard in the court’s Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) list, relates to a variation to the current plan made last year by councillors, and supported by chief executive Tim Lucey. The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR), a newly established office to independently assess councils’ forward planning and zoning decisions, recommended to the Minister for Housing and Urban Development the decision should be reversed.
