New SSMPD chief hired

SAULT STE MARIE The Sault Ste. Marie Police Department will be welcoming a new police chief in a few weeks: Wesley Bierling.
According to city manager Brian Chapman, Bierling is currently the undersheriff for Lake County. Prior to that role he served as the undersheriff and as a sheriff’s deputy for Newaygo County. Bierling has accepted this offer of employment and he starts tentatively on June 1.
“Bierling brings a good mix of law enforcement and managerial experience which will help him contribute to the great work our police department is currently doing,” said Chapman.
BIG RAPIDS â A 36-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman from Evart face several felony offenses, including breaking and entering and larceny offenses, after leading police on a nearly 40-mile pursuit that went through three counties.
Jordan Jeffery Dewitt and Christina Lynn Taylor are currently being held at the Mecosta County Jail for their connection with a long list of thefts during the past month, according to a release from the Mecosta County Sheriff s Office. Charges include three different counts of unlawful driving away of an automobile, a count of breaking and entering a building with intent, a count of larceny in a building, two counts of larceny of $1,000 or more but less than $20,000, a count of home invasion and one count of larceny of firearms from five separate Mecosta County Sheriff s Office investigations.

At 9:46 a.m. on April 19, the Mecosta County Sheriff s Office was assisting the Newaygo County Sheriff s Office with locating suspects involved in a reported breaking and entering on Baseline and Thornapple in Newaygo County s Wilcox Township, according to police. The suspect vehicle eventually was located in Mecosta County and police said upon attempting a traffic stop of the vehicle on Mecosta County s 7 Mile Road near Elder the suspect vehicle fled police.

Devin Bates, 16, has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing the shirt in the above photo, according to the sheriffâs office.

White Cloud police arrest man in connection to attempted stabbing, domestic assault

WHITE CLOUD, Mich. â One person has been arrested in connection to an attempted stabbing and domestic assault earlier this month in White Cloud.
Levon Forest Duke of White Cloud, 34, had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, according to the City of White Cloud Police Department.
The department responded March 9 to a report of an attempted stabbing and domestic assault.
Because the 9-1-1 call was delayed, the suspect was able to flee the scene before police arrived.
An investigation was conducted and a report filed with the prosecutor s office.
