Michigan Woman Died of ‘Complications’ After Getting COVID-19 Vaccine: Family
A Michigan family claims that their loved one died of complications after receiving the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine and that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is investigating.
The family of Anne VanGeest, 35, said she died on April 19 at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Anne’s passing as the result of complications after receiving the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. Anne (Annie), who was 35, was a loving mother, wife, sister, and daughter. An active member in the animal rescue community, Annie will be remembered as a fierce advocate, a master-multi-tasker, and a caring friend by her colleagues, fellow volunteers, and family,” her family said in a statement to local media. “We ask for privacy for her family as they mourn Annie’s passing and celebrate her life.”

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Anne’s passing as the result of complications after receiving the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine,” her family said in a statement released through a Grand Rapids public relations firm.
The statement from a representative of VanGeest’s family stopped short of saying she died from the J&J vaccine, instead saying she died “as the result of complications after (emphasis added) receiving the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.”
The statement went on to describe VanGeest as a “loving mother, wife, sister and daughter.”

We’ve done a lot of pivoting in the past year, from going to work and going to school to doing both from home. We’ve pivoted from large gatherings and public events to wearing masks and staying six feet apart and watching much of the world go by on television. Front-line workers had to pivot quickly to 24/7 crisis mode with no work-from-home option.
We are now pivoting again in the United States, from a scenario of vaccine demand exceeding supply to one of supply soon exceeding demand. Those who were frantically scrambling for vaccine appointments a couple of months ago can now find them with relative ease. Meanwhile, the CDC has relaxed its guidance on wearing masks outdoors, mostly for the fully vaccinated, while telling us all to keep masking up in indoor public places and outdoor events with big crowds.

Today the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the independent group of experts that advises the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recommended that the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine be reinstated in the Unites States vaccination campaign in a 10 to 4 vote. One member abstained from voting because of a conflict of interest.
This ends an 10-day pause on use of the vaccine. The pause began after rare blood clots, called thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), were detected in a handful of patients in the weeks following vaccination.
At the time of the pause, the Johnsons & Johnson vaccine made up only 5% of immunizations given in the United States, but has been considered an important tool in reaching patient populations that would benefit from the single-dose COVID-19 vaccine.
