Published on: Saturday, July 24, 2021 By: Bernama PUTRAJAYA: National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pic) stressed that there was no connection between the empty vaccine syringe case and the syndicate selling Covid-19 vaccine in the country. “Out of the 16 million doses administered, only 13 police reports have been lodged on the issue of empty vaccine syringe shots by Health Ministry staff at several vaccination centres (PPVs),” he told a press conference here, Friday. Khairy said of the 13 police reports lodged, only one case where negligence on the part of the vaccinator had occurred while the rest had no solid evidence.

He said the fast-track approach in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (Pick) includes boosting the capacity for vaccination rate to 500,000 doses per day, to tackle the emergence of new variants of the virus which are more vicious. “Vaccination is the main key to our success in combating Covid-19. Under the original schedule, 80 per cent of the residents in Malaysia will get the full doses of the vaccine by the first quarter of 2022.

According to him, Pharmaniaga Bhd had finished supplying 12 million doses of China’s Sinovac vaccine to the Government for the Pick earlier than the original schedule. “We are receiving the entire delivery (of the Sinovac vaccine) by the end of this month,” he said, dismissing speculations that the decision to stop giving the Sinovac vaccine was related to its efficacy.
