Hanni El Khatib is both an accomplished designer (he’s the brand director of HUF) and a tenured musician (he’s the co-owner of indie label Innovative Leisure, with five studio albums under his belt). Khatib’s world is amorphous, ever-evolving and changing, but one thing that’s always been a constant is his love for sneakers.

Nike‘s Air Zoom Flight 95, a bug-eyed basketball shoe commonly associated with Jason Kidd and centered around the carbon fiber ovals on its midsole. Even later in life as the creative director of HUF, Khatib had the privilege of working with the late, great Keith Hufnagel on several legendary collaborations with Nike, adidas, Vans and more.

Approximately two weeks ago, the WNBA debuted three new Nike jerseys for all 12 franchises.
Following the ethos preached and practiced by WNBA players that the WNBA is about basketball yet also bigger than basketball the jerseys not only feature new and improved technical designs but, with the Heroine, Explorer and Rebel editions, also intend to represent the ideological values of the league and its players. The Rebel editions, in particular, aim to promote socially-, politically- or historically-conscious messages.

Nike‘s Air Max 95 is well-known, so Nike Basketball is nodding to the King’s favorite lifestyle silhouette with a new LeBron 18 Low “Greedy.” Reminiscent of the Air Max 95 “Greedy” in palette and colorblocking alike, this low-cut LeBron 18 combines the Swoosh’s finest hoops technology with plenty of Nike Sportswear lifestyle flair for a fresh take on a classic.
Uppers are composed of synthetic TPE material in black and white and use signature mismatched “Greedy” colorblocking. The right shoe boasts volt and red accents while the left shoe looks to orange and teal, but signature detail on both feet is provided by the tongue. The right tongue is done up in black, the left in purple, and each features a two-tone Air Max 95-style badge that’s been altered to read “LeBron.” This altered branding continues on the volt (right) and orange (left) insoles, both of which add a “LBJ” motif to their standard Nike Air logo. Nike‘s signature line was red-hot in the early 2010s an era widely regarded as the second “golden age” of Nike Basketball and one of the most memorable styles was the LeBron 8 “HWC” (short for “Hardwood Classic”). Originally a PE created exclusively for the King, the “HWC” is now set for its first retail release.
The LeBron 8 was LBJ’s first signature silhouette to debut after he’d left the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat. Although many success-starved New York Knicks fans may have taken the blue and orange “HWC” colorway to mean LeBron had interest in the Big Apple, it was in fact a callout to the Cavs’ Hardwood Classic jerseys. Uppers are dressed almost entirely in blue, with paneling split between smooth blue suede and recessed synthetic material with a carbon fiber pattern. This entire assemblage is bolstered with Flywire, and a white Swoosh trimmed with orange creeps onto the heel.
