THE call for Expressions of Interest from investors to purchase five state-owned electricity power generation companies raises both hope and trepidation. The Bureau of Public Enterprises, on behalf of the National Council on Privatisation and the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, is putting the GenCos on the auction block as part of the ongoing reforms and the privatisation programme, to improve the country’s troubled power sector and raise funds. Investor and public optimism is however tempered by the dismal outcome of the flawed 2013 power asset sales and fear that this round could well go the same sordid way.

SINCE the creation of Delta Central, the people of the senatorial district have not had a qualitative and rewarding representation in the Red Chamber as they currently have in Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the Deputy President of the Senate. Virtually every community in the senatorial district is feeling the impact of Omo-Agege.
Omo-Agege, who was elected into the Senate in 2015, has proved himself to be a true voice of the people of Delta Central compared to what the people had from the inception until 2015.
He influenced the establishment of a Federal Polytechnic in Orogun, Defence Space School, Orogun, 45 transformers, 700 stands of street lights and renovation/rehabilitation of a good number of secondary schools across the senatorial district.
