Block Tegina -Minna Road in Niger, Kidnap 18 Passengers

By Laleye Dipo Bandits yesterday morning took over the Tegina – Minna road in the Rafi Local government of Niger State, and kidnapped no fewer than 18 people. The 18 kidnapped people, according to an eyewitness, were travelling in three commercial vehicles when they ran into the blockade by the bandits at Kundu town a few kilometres from Zungeru town. Kundu was the place 42 passengers travelling in the Niger State Transport Authority (NSTA) vehicle over three weeks ago were kidnapped. The state government later secured the release of the commuters eight days after their abduction. The passengers in the three vehicles were abducted and taken to unknown destination while the vehicles were left by the roadside.

Insecurity: Nigeria s situation no longer acceptable, create State Police

By Omeiza Ajayi Director-General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum PGF, Salihu Moh. Lukman has called on the Federal Government to allow for the creation of State Police in the wake of rising attacks on schools, saying Nigeria’s national situation was no longer acceptable. Lukman in a statement issued Monday in Abuja also challenged the political class and subnational entities to complement efforts of the federal government to reduce mass poverty which he described as the factory producing kidnappers, bandits, and terrorists. The PGF boss queried why the ruling All Progressives Congress APC would set up the Gov. Nasir el-Rufai Committee on True Federalism which among other things recommended the creation of State Police if it knew it would not implement the committee’s recommendations.
