Our correspondent gathered that the all-important Mambilla project, which is to be Nigeria’s biggest single hydropower station, with the capacity to generate a whopping 3,050MW and boost power generation significantly for the benefit of the already distressed citizens, was not captured in the 2021 budget.

Ife Ogunfuwa Stakeholders in the private sector say Nigeria’s competitiveness within Africa will improve if the government bridges the infrastructure deficit in the country. The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria and Association of Bureaux De Change Operators of Nigeria spoke at  a workshop organised by the Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria in Lagos. They also called for an improvement in port facilities to facilitate participation of Nigeria in the African Continental Free Trade Area. The Director-General, NACCIMA, Ayoola Olukanni, said policies must be implemented to improve ease of doing business and to reduce the cost of doing business, especially for SMEs, which contribute about 48 per cent to the national GDP and provide about 84 per cent employment according to various studies.

This survey, as disclosed by the organizer is to foster greater standardisation and integration in MSMEs as a way to explore all opportunities embedded within African territories and Nigeria’s economy. AfCFTA in collaboration with other stakeholders known as Organized Private Sector of Nigeria, OPSN comprised of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, NACCIMA, Nigeria Association of Small-Scale Industrialists, NASSI, among others recently held a virtual meeting to launch the survey brief to bridge the gap that exists in the MSMEs and African Trade.
