Barely two months after
Sunday PUNCH’s report detailed how neglect and lack of genuine commitment by successive governments have hampered the development of the various hydropower stations across the country, there are strong indications that the Mambilla hydropower project, conceived since 1972, might have suffered another setback.
Our correspondent gathered that the all-important Mambilla project, which is to be Nigeria’s biggest single hydropower station, with the capacity to generate a whopping 3,050MW and boost power generation significantly for the benefit of the already distressed citizens, was not captured in the 2021 budget.

Members of the organised private sector (OPS) and some economic analysts yesterday warned against a fresh lockdown of the economy as part of curbs to tackle the uptick in COVID-19 cases, which heralded the onset of a second wave of the pandemic.
The incidence reached a new high yesterday with data from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NDDC) showing a new high of 1,145 new cases of COVID-19 that beat Wednesday’s record of 930 positive cases.
Lagos remains the epicentre of the pandemic with 459 cases while the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) followed with 145 incidents.

In a bid to open up opportunities for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs and highlight the gains within the African Continental Free Trade Area AfCFTA, the women Center for International Private Enterprise, CIPE launched a survey brief to showcase a roadmap for MSMEs for sustainable policy reforms.
This survey, as disclosed by the organizer is to foster greater standardisation and integration in MSMEs as a way to explore all opportunities embedded within African territories and Nigeria’s economy.
AfCFTA in collaboration with other stakeholders known as Organized Private Sector of Nigeria, OPSN comprised of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, NACCIMA, Nigeria Association of Small-Scale Industrialists, NASSI, among others recently held a virtual meeting to launch the survey brief to bridge the gap that exists in the MSMEs and African Trade.
