Nigeria is getting closer to self-sufficiency in liquefied petroleum gas production – Buhari

By Ismaila Chafe Abuja, Dec. 22, 2020 President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria has moved a step closer to the nation’s dream of fully utilising its abundant gas potential. The president said this on Tuesday at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa while inaugurating the Integrated Gas Handling Facility and LPG Processing and Dispensing Plants. The plant was built and operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, an Upstream Subsidiary of NNPC in Oredo, Edo. According to him, the Oredo Integrated Gas Handling Facility and its associated NGLs depot will be delivering 240,000 metric tons of commercial grades Liquefied Petroleum Gas and Propane.

NPDC hopes gas handling facility will help curb gas flaring in Nigeria

The Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation (NPDC), the main subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on Monday said it had begun operations at its Integrated Gas Handling Facility (IGHF), which would help minimise gas flaring in the country. NPDC stated that apart from reducing gas flaring, the plant had the capacity to convert the commodity to revenue. Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer, loses $2.5 billion (N950 billion at official exchange rate, N380/$) every year to gas flaring from 178 flare sites, according to Africa Energy Portal, a trend that makes the country seventh on the list of the world’s top flaring countries.

He said the entire LPG and propane production which is targeted at the Nigerian market will lower prices and deepen its penetration to safeguard the environment. The minister who stated this at the virtual commission of the facility in Edo State said the project, with the capacity to process up to 200 Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD)of gas, highlights the commitment of the NNPC to increase Nigeria’s value realisation from gas.

Nigeria closer to full utilisation of gas potentials – Buhari

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President spoke at the inauguration of the Integrated Gas Handling Facility and LPG Processing and Dispensing Plants built and operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, an Upstream Subsidiary of NNPC in Oredo, Edo State. The statement was titled “We are getting closer to self-sufficiency in liquefied petroleum gas production, says President Buhari as he commissions processing and dispensing plants.”
