Jacob Ajom takes a look at the Nigerian Professional Football League and warned that unless the clubs, players and organisers of the league operate in strict adherence to the rules and regulations governing the competition, the league will not achieve the desired goals.
The Nigerian Professional Football League just started again after a long while. What do you expect of the new season?
I don’t expect much considering the fact that it was restarted in a hurry. Under a proper setting, before a new league season begins, teams have to train for at least one month or more, engaging in pre-season warm-up matches and tournaments. This would prepare the teams and put them in a competitive mood before the start.

Enyimba FC defeated Adamawa United 2-1 yesterday in Bauchi to climb to the third spot of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
The Elephant of Aba have returned to consideration for the title of the Nigerian topflight in addition to qualifying for the group stage of the CAF Confederation Cup. Enyimba are scheduled to play Rivers United in the final playoff.
Anayo Iwuala fired Enyimba into lead in the 8th minute with Ima Obot Consolidating in the 32nd minute. Adamawa’s Idris Abubakar scored from the penalty spot in the 61st minute for the consolatory goal.
Elsewhere yesterday, Wikki Tourists defeated Jigawa Golden Stars 2-0 in Kaduna.

NPFL: Nasarawa United draw 1-1 against Kano Pillars

Nasarawa United Football Club on Sunday drew 1-1 with visiting Kano Pillars Football Club in a Day three match of the 2020/2021 Nigerian Professional Football League at the Lafia Township Stadium.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the first half saw some fine display of skills and scoring opportunities mostly from the home side but with no goals.
Kano Pillars went ahead on resumption (46th minute) through substitute Nwagwa Nyima, who capitalised on the home side’s poor defending to score.
NAN reports that Nasarawa United failed to equalize in most of that half but when it looked like they were going to lose their first match of the season, Adamu Hassan, latching on a pass from Abubakar Abdullahi, slotted the ball into the net for the home team’s needed equalizer in the 83rd minute to make it 1-1 till the final whistle.
