Electricity: NDPHC completes 22 sub stations, others On By Udeme Akpan THE Niger Delta Power Holding Company, NDPHC, a key intervention agency in the power sector, has contributed over 3,400 megawatts, MW, to the national grid, while delivering 22 substations, a new report has shown. Specifically, the National Integrated Power Projects, NIPP project report from 2015 to 2021, obtained by Energy Vanguard, indicated that the NIPP programme is currently in its second phase that traverses transmission projects, distribution, and renewable energy. Through six NIPP, the report disclosed that in the first phase, NDPHC, which is owned by the three tiers of government, kick-started the first phase of NIPP with the construction of 10 gas-fired power plants, which it calls ‘The Big Ten’, especially in the Niger Delta.

BEDC woos customers with discounts, longer repayment period

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has disclosed that it has developed a debt restructuring scheme for customers to enjoy discounts and address their outstanding indebtedness of electricity bills. The company also announced an extension of debt contract period up to a maximum of 60 months, depending on customers’ debt profile and their down payments. In a statement issued at the weekend, BEDC said: “The Debt Rescheduling Scheme is in line with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) Act, which mandates that electricity operators recover costs on prudent investment to be able to provide quality services to customers.” x The statement revealed that the scheme had commenced across BEDC’s franchise states of Delta, Edo, Ekiti and Ondo. LASG is on the right track with the proposed electricity policy and we applaud the State government for this pioneering effort to decentralise and democratise the supply of electricity to Lagosians. Other States should emulate the LASG electricity policy and start to fashion out their own electricity policies and state electricity laws. This is what we’ve termed “Energy Federalism”. The Lagos State government recently released a consultation paper on the Lagos State Electricity Policy.
