The direction the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare is taking Nigerian sports came into focus during the week, when he summarily dissolved the boards of Olympics sports federations and others under his supervision. The sports minister’s dissolution of the boards at this moment was largely seen as a political move to settle scores with perceived ‘sports political’ opponents.
A case that readily comes to mind is that of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, where surprisingly a lingering dispute that could have been tactfully resolved has ended in the files of Nigerian Supreme Court.
“Though the tenure of the sports federation boards will expire in July 2021, the minister seem to have jumped the gun to get at his perceived sports political opponents.”
“Without any gainsaying, the Technical and Development Committee is the engine room of the NFF. We know what you can contribute individually and collectively to uplift the standard of the Nigeria game.
“On our part, we will give all the support you need to succeed in this mission,” Alh. Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Chairman of Chairmen who represented Mr Pinnick, said at the inauguration in Abuja.
The committee has as Chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, with Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu as Vice Chairman. Members are Etubom Paul Bassey, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi, Barr. Isaac Danladi, Alhaji Dahiru Sadi, Mr Victor Ikpeba and Alhaji Mutiu Adepoju.

World football power, Argentina, and Romania are likely to participate in the Aisha Buhari Women Football tournament following discussions between the organisers and both countries.
The Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament is scheduled to hold in Lagos in September with Ghana, Cameroun, Mali, South Africa, Morocco, and Nigeria already confirmed for the competition.
Yesterday, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, revealed that talks were on with Argentine and Romanian officials on the possibility of both countries featuring in the competition, which is one of the programmes the FIFA Council member plans to deploy in his bid to make Lagos Africa’s number one football city.

(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Defending Champions, Kastina United has again won the 2021 edition of the Nigeria professional Football League NPFL Clubs/ Spanish Laliga U-15 Tournament played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Sports Stadium Enugu, South- East Nigeria.
African Examiner Sports report that the Kastina boys emerged victorious on Sunday after humbling their opponent, and second placed team, Warri Wolves 4- 2 in a penalty shootout after they had played 1-1 draw during the 90 minutes regular time in the final match of the competition.
The Tournament which lasted two weeks, begun three seasons ago, under a partnership between Spanish Laliga and League Managment Company of Nigeria, (LMC), organizers of the NPFL, and is aimed at unearthing young soccer talents across Nigeria.
