NSITF moves to address work-related injuries, diseases The Punch Published 15 May 2021 The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund says it has put in place services designed to cater for employees, employers and the general public in the event of work-related injuries, diseases and disabilities. The Deputy General Manager, NSITF, Ikeja Branch, Mrs Toyin Emeordi, speaking during a safety walk to mark the 2021 World Day for Safety and Health in Lagos, explained the importance of employees’ safety in the workplace. Emeordi spoke on the theme ‘Anticipate, prepare and respond to crisis’. She called on all stakeholders to combine efforts and resources to enforce the occupational safety and health standard for the prevention of workplace disabilities, stressing the need for organisations to respond speedily to the ongoing issue of maintaining safety in a pandemic.

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Lagos Island branch, has urged employees and business owners to adopt strict regulations, practices and procedures to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in workplaces, especially with the emergence of the third wave. Speaking at the 2021 World Health and Safety Day, the Assistant General Manager, NSITF, Lagos Island, Erebi Kia, said the pandemic had exposed all workers and people in the world.   She said workplace, where workers spend time indoors in proximity to one another, work interactions, shared accommodation and transport, have, in some cases become sources of outbreak of the virus.   x Kia attributed this to the difficulty of practising physical distancing indoors and poor ventilation, adding that the first and second wave of the virus had a huge impact on the world of work, ranging from the immediate threat of acquiring the virus to widespread job losses in different sectors as well as

NSITF Tasks Employers on Occupational Safety, Health

As the working community of the world celebrated safety and health at work, the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSIFT) has preached about the need to anticipate, prepare and respond to crisis by investing in resilient occupational safety and health (OSH). Speaking on the occasion of the World Safety and Health Day, Assistant General Manager in the Agege branch office, Lagos, Mrs. Muibat O. Alabi, encouraged all employers to invest in resilient OSH system as a preventive measure for accident occurrence. NSITF is saddled with the implementation of employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS). In a statement issued to mark the occasion, Alabi said: “The emergence of the COVID 19 pandemic is an eye opener, and has thought us a lesson that we need to plan and prepare for emergencies.”
