Onukwue Share this article Nigerian financial data startup Mono has raised a seed round of $2 million from a number of investors including Entrée Capital and Lateral Capital.  Babs Ogundeyi, co-founder and CEO of Kuda; Gbenga Oyebode, partner at The Continent Venture Partners; and Eric Idiahi, co-founder and partner at Verod Capital, also invested according to TechCrunch. Mono was founded in 2020 by Abdul Hassan, a former product manager at Paystack, and Prakhar Singh. The company’s technology enables businesses and individuals to gain access to financial information, such as account statements, stored at commercial banks. Mono is one of out a number of startups creating open banking solutions in Nigeria.

Outrage as Nigerian govt seeks citizens phone identification numbers, IMEI

ADVERTISEMENT Nigerians have reacted with outrage after the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) said in a new report that it will collect the identification numbers of their phones. The IMEI number allows phones to be tracked and monitored, and allows access to sensitive data of users. The NCC said President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the compilation of IMEIs for all registered mobile phones before the end of July. The disclosure was made in the NCC’s Revised National Policy for Sim Card Registration, released this week. The policy said the “implementation of a Centralized Equipment Identity and Register (CEIR), otherwise known as Device Management System (DMS) will serve as a repository for keeping records of all registered mobile phones’ International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) and owners of such devices.”

Enugu Raises the Alarm over Plot to Sabotage NCC s Industrial Park Project

By Gideon Arinze The Enugu State Government (ENSG) has raised alarm over plans by some individuals to sabotage the ongoing construction of a Digital Industrial Park (DIP) by the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC), at the green triangle of the popular Murtala Mohammed Park. The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Obi Kama, said yesterday in a public statement that some individuals have been using different guises to disrupt the ongoing construction works at the site. Kama clarified that the ENSG allocated Plot OS/1, Old GRA Enugu (where the green triangle, Murtala Mohammed Park is located) to the NCC via the Enugu State Ministry of Land’s letter reference No. LEN:38779/8, dated September 8, 2020, for the construction of DIP.
