FOI Act Not Yet Explored In Public Systems – Anambra NOA Director – The News Chronicle

Awka – Despite having been in place for the past 10 years now, the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act has not been fully explored to bring about transparency in government and public systems in Nigeria. This is according to the Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, Barrister Charles Nwoji, who spoke on Wednesday, at a one-day stakeholders’ round table on understanding and application of the FOI Act, organized by NOA, in Awka. The FOI Act, which was passed into law by the National Assembly in 2011, intends that citizens of the country should have unfettered access to information required from any public institution.

COVID-19: FCTA vaccinates journalists

Fri Apr 02 2021 The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun the vaccination of members of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ), FCT Chapter, aiming to inspire public confidence in the vaccine. The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, who spoke at the NUJ Secretariat in Utako, said the administration considered it necessary to vaccinate journalists because they are in their rights frontline workers. Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Strategic Communications, Malam Abubakar Sani, the minister said journalists taking the vaccine would inspire public confidence and clear doubts about the exercise which has been flagged off in the FCT in the past three weeks.

NAN workers accuse IPPIS of illegal deductions on February salaries, urge investigation

Views: 577 Workers of the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday accused the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System of effecting illegal deductions on their February salaries. The workers, in separate interviews and written complaints, called for the refund of the deductions and a thorough investigation into what they said was a scam. They accused IPPIS, the body charged with paying the wages of federal workers, of colluding with perpetrators of the scam, and urged leaders of their unions to take up the matter with the concerned authorities. Collins Yakubu-Hammer, the Acting Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist, NAN Chapel, Abuja, described the deductions as “strange, illegal and unacceptable”.
