Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Kogi State chapter, has promised to offer positive and credible opposition to the ruling party in the state, to enliven democracy by engaging in constructive criticism.
The newly elected state Chairman of the CNPP, Comrade Muhammed Abdullahi, made the promise when he led other Executive Committee members of the organised opposition parties, on a familiarisation tour to the Nigeria Union of Journalists Secretariat in Lokoja, on Monday.
He expressed disappointment over what he described as “illicit connivance” with the ruling parties by the past CNPP leaderships to defraud the people of the state, barring his mind to engage the ruling party in areas they may lose focus.
Arrested handcuffed
The Imo council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has demanded a full investigation into Monday’s arrest of newspaper vendors and distributors in Owerri by security operatives. x
The council’s request is contained in a statement in Owerri, co-signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Chris Akaronye and Juliet Dim.
It decried the “gestapo” manner in the arrest was carried out, allegedly by the Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector General of Police.
It stated that its investigation revealed that the state Police Command and Directorate of State Services (DSS) in Imo had no prior knowledge about the arrest.

On Monday, the governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, presented nine new Peugeot 406 cars to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), RATTAWU, and all media outfits based in the state.
This comes after the governor had pledged to donate the vehicles when he hosted media executives and practitioners to break the Ramadan fast at his residence.
Matawalle who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Bala Maru, said his decision to purchase and distribute vehicles to media houses was aimed at ameliorating transport difficulties faced by the organizations.
He said the gesture would also help the beneficiaries cut costs and retain employees, especially when the coronavirus pandemic affected the global economy.

The press centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Taraba State council, was on Tuesday filled to capacity as members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) embarked on a prayer session for the country.
Also observed to support NAWOJ to seek God’s intervention in the present security situation in the country are members of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Federation of Muslim Women, among others.
Led by the state chairperson of NAWOJ, Hilda Adebayo, the female journalists and their counterparts from other organizations said the only way out of the present security dungeon is “prayers”.

Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, had stated that the operatives were not from Imo command.
It was later revealed that the Inspector-General of Police led Intelligent Response Team (IRT) carried out the operation.
One of the arrested vendors, Onyebuchi Iwundu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at a police station that the IRT operatives picked them on Monday at Rotibi Street, off the Douglas Road.
