BENIN CITY – The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has reiterated calls for behavioural changes and need for caution among the public, as the state ramps up efforts to halt the spread of coronavirus in the wake of the second wave of the pandemic.
The governor, in a virtual meeting with journalists in Edo State, noted that the state’s campaign against the coronavirus pandemic is peculiar because it was also battling with Lassa fever, as this was also its peak period in the state.
According to him, “The last time we had to deal with the pandemic, we had enough time to respond and develop an epidemiological curve that showed how the disease behaves. This time around, we have to be cautious. COVID-19 is hitting us quickly.

The Health Writers’ Association of Nigeria (HEWAN) has urged the Federal Government to ban flights from Britain and other countries currently experiencing the spread of the new COVID-19 variant.
The call was contained in a statement jointly signed by Chioma Obinna and Lucy Osuizigbo-Okechukwu, President and Secretary of the association respectively, on Wednesday in Lagos.
HEWAN is an umbrella body of all health/science reporters and editors in Lagos, registered under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The journalists’ group appealed to the government not to wait any further before taking necessary steps to keep the variant away from Nigeria.

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, has said that he would not allow the issue of succession derail his completion agenda, saying only God can decide who would succeed him in 2023.
Emmanuel said this while speaking with chapel heads and officials of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, in Uyo, on Tuesday.
He said, “We are making efforts to ensure timely completion of projects; therefore, I am not going to be distracted on the issue of succession plan, only God can decide who succeeds me in 2023.
“There is no intention of imposing a surrogate; rather i will focus on my administration’s blueprint and bring more meaningful developments to the state.

THE Health Writers’ Association of Nigeria, HEWAN, on Thursday called on the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, place a ban on flights from Britain and other countries currently experiencing the spread of the new COVID-19 variant.
In a press statement by the association, they urged the government not to wait until the virus gets to the shores of the country before taking the necessary steps to keep the variant away from Nigeria.
The body of Health Writers expressed confidence in the country’s ability to develop a vaccine for the novel Coronavirus.
