Lagos State Government has deployed newly recruited female water guards to jetties and terminals.
In a statement on Tuesday, Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) said the development was to ensure efficient operations.
Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, the General Manager, explained that the jetties had insufficient personnel.
The official disclosed the guards underwent a series of training in basic waterway safety, jetty operational procedures and conflict resolution.
“They have been equipped to ensure adequate safety compliance by boat operators and ferry passengers on the waterways and at jetties.”
The personnel were posted to the Odo Agemo jetty in Egan Igando area, Isashi jetty off Iyana school and Ojo Iyana Iba jetty.
