The Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Mariam Katagum, has called for accessible financing for the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at single-digit interest rate.
The minister specifically tasked the financial sector to continue to support the federal government’s initiatives to boost affordable financing to small businesses by granting cheap credit to the MSMEs sector at single digit.
She made the call in her remarks at the virtual Ecobank MSME and Financial Inclusion Summit themed: “Unlocking Credit Growth in a Changing MSME Lending Landscape”.
Katagum, said as partners in progress, “I charge Ecobank Plc and the financial sector as a whole, to continue to provide the much-needed support for federal government initiatives by facilitating and granting accessible financing for the MSME sub-sector, at single digit. I repeat at single digit.”

Nigeria is trapped in severe insecurity. The country is the third most terrorised country in the world, after Afghanistan and Iran, according to the 2020 Global Terrorism Index. War-torn Somalia and Syria have better ranking than Nigeria on the index. The country is also grappling with an acute economic challenge. To highlight the dire situation, about 40% of Nigerians are extremely poor, according to data by the National Bureau of Statistics. Inflation is in double digit. And the naira has continued to devalue.

Jigawa: FG unveils solar power for 5 million households

The Federal Government, on Friday, unveiled its new Solar Power for five million households in off-grid rural communities in Jigawa.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, while unveiling the Solar Power Naija Programme, aimed at Jangefe community in Roni local government area of Jigawa, said the project was expected to create 250,000 jobs, through its value chain.
“The project launch is the first phase of the deployment of one 100,000 Solar Home System (SHS), under the Solar Power Naija Programme of the Nigeria Economic Sustainability Plan (NESP), by the Federal Government with the objectives to;“Expand energy access to 25 million individuals, representing five million new connections, through the provision of solar home systems or connection to a mini grid.
