UNCASVILLE, Conn. Vanessa Bryant took Michael Jordan’s hand and walked down from the stage, a familiar chant breaking out throughout the arena as she made her way back to her seat.
“Kobe! Kobe! Kobe!” the crowd shouted.
With that, he was officially, finally a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Kobe Bryant is in the Hall now, along with contemporaries Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett, headliners of a group of nine who got their delayed and long-awaited enshrinement on Saturday night, more than a year after being announced as the Hall’s Class of 2020.
“Right now, I’m sure he’s laughing in heaven, because I’m about to praise him in public,” Vanessa Bryant said.
Paul Pierce, Chris Bosh, Chris Webber and Ben Wallace were among those selected as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame s 2021 class on Sunday.

Kobe Bryant has been posthumously inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
The five-time NBA champion died, aged 41, in a helicopter crash in January 2020 alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.
He was presented at the ceremony in Connecticut by NBA great Michael Jordan and his widow, Vanessa, accepted his induction on his behalf.
In a speech, she said: You did it, you re in the Hall of Fame now.
Vanessa Bryant added: You re a true champ. You re not just an MVP, you are an all-time great. I m so proud of you. I love you forever and always, Kobe Bean Bryant.
