With $110 million donation, U of U renames to Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine © Provided by KUTV Salt Lake City The University of Utah announced a significant monetary gift from the Eccles family Wednesday and announced that it has renamed its school of medicine.  The gift, from the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Foundation and the Nora Eccles Treadwell Foundation, marks the largest gift ever made by the Eccles family to the university. The gift was announced by President Emerita Ruth V. Watkins, Ph.D., We proposed a very significant gift for their donation. We made a bold request to fulfill those bold dreams. And then something that in my experience does not ever happen, happened. Amazingly the two Eccles came back to us with the decision to exceed our proposal. They raised their gift to match Spence s guiding life principal of giving 110% with a truely remarkable gift of $110 million, Watkins said.
