KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The Selangor Department of Environment (DOE) and the police have detained suspects over the illegal dumping of chemical waste at the Sungai Langat reserve area in Taman Seri Reko, Kajang recently.
However, its director-general Norlin Jaafar did not disclose how many were arrested by the authorities on Sunday (Feb 7), saying that the DOE was able to seize a three-tonne lorry believed to have been used in the illegal dumping based on intelligence obtained.
She added that the investigation paper was being completed to bring the suspects to court under Section 34B of the Environmental Quality Act 1974, which carries a mandatory jail sentence, with a possible fine of no more than RM500,000.
