SEYMOUR The fight to fix the deteriorating Kinneytown Dam and its inoperable fish ladder has been cranked up a notch.
U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., joined municipal leaders and environmentalists Monday to call for federal help to fix problems dating back at least a quarter of a century.
Two Hartford-area projects will get federal brownfields funding to clean up contaminated land for development, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Thursday.
Riverfront Recapture, a nonprofit that manages riverside parks, was awarded a $500,000 Brownfields Program grant to clean up riverfront parcels on Leibert Road in Hartford and Meadow Road in Windsor. The land was used in the past for industry and agriculture and is contaminated with pesticides and other toxins. We are extremely grateful to the EPA for their support of our new park, regional trail connection, and commercial development in Hartford and Windsor,” Riverfront Recapture CEO Michael Zaleski said.

NAUGATUCK The Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments has awarded Naugatuck two grants totaling $245,000 for environmental remediation efforts at two borough-owned properties.
Naugatuck will get $200,000 for cleanup planning and remediation at the former Risdon property on Andrew Avenue, NVCOG announced in a news release.
The 12-acre parcel was the home of Risdon Manufacturing for 87 years. The company moved to Watertown in 2000 and a building on the site was later demolished. The borough bought the property for $400,000 through an auction in 2019. As part of the agreement, the borough forgave about $168,000 in back taxes and ended up paying about $232,000 for the
