The NJ Department of Environmental Protection will hold virtual meetings on Jan. 7 and Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. regarding the multi-million-dollar investment to restore 234 acres of Liberty State Park’s interior.
The plan, called the Liberty State Park Natural Resource Restoration Project, would use money from the Natural Resources Damages (NRD) fund to restore natural resources and create access to the interior of the park that is currently off-limits to the public.
It seeks to restore several habitats for a variety of species, including 72 acres of fresh and saltwater wetlands and 133 acres of upland maritime habitats.
No bears killed on first day of extended N.J. bear hunt
Updated Dec 17, 2020;
New Jersey’s bear hunt has been extended for a fourth straight year in eight northern counties, but is off to a very quiet start.
No bears were reported killed on Wednesday, the first day of a 4-day extension concluding Saturday, according to the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.
Cody McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the New Jersey Outdoor Alliance, said the snowstorm that began on Wednesday afternoon likely was a factor.
Some of the heaviest snowfall was in Sussex, Morris and Warren counties, where 302 bears out of 336 overall were killed during separate, 6-day hunts in October and December.
