More support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities is coming from the NBA.
The league announced that it will commit more than $2.5 million in funds and resources to HBCUs as part of this year s All-Star Game.
The funding will be given in partnership with the National Basketball Player s Association. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said the All-Star Game will honor the vital role HBCUs play in our communities.
The NBA announced its plans to hold the All-Star Game on March 7 in Atlanta with the event pledging charitable contributions to HBCUs and COVID-19 relief.
The game will also shine a light on equity and access to COVID-19 care, relief and vaccines.

The 2021 NBA All-Star Game will continue using the format it introduced last year in honor of the late Kobe Bryant.

Stadium’s Shams Charania, “The NBA will again honor the late Kobe Bryant at March 7 All-Star Game with incorporating 24 points into the calculation of the final target score.”
Last year’s All-Star Game saw a major change in the 4th quarter: the game clock was turned off during the last quarter and either team could win if they reached the “Final Target Score.” The league previously explained, “For example: If the cumulative score of the first three quarters is 100-95, the Final Target Score would be set at 124 points. To win the NBA All-Star Game, the team with 100 points would need to score 24 points in the fourth quarter before the team with 95 points scores 29 points, and vice versa.”

James and Durant will pick their respective teams from the remaining 22 All-Stars on March 4 after getting the most votes of any player in either conference. The All-Star Game which the NBA earlier Thursday officially announced would take place this season will be played March 7 in Atlanta.
The players joining them in the frontcourt from both conferences went as expected, with Durant being joined by Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid in the starting pool for the East, while James was joined by LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic in the West.
Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms tweeted on Wednesday that the NBA All-Star game is a “made-for-TV event” that fans should not plan to attend in person in the city
