In a letter sent to the Governor’s Office, County Executive Curran writes “While we continue to battle COVID-19, we must also continue reopening our economy and society in a common-sense manner. That is why I am requesting that New York State expand permitted capacity at the Nassau Coliseum to 50% by May 7, 2021.” Nassau Coliseum reopened March 11 for 1,000 Northwell Health frontline staff and Islanders season ticket members on March on 18th, as permitted by state guidelines. Attendance is currently limited to 10% of capacity.

Photo by: NCPD UPDATE Nassau County Executive Laura Curran has confirmed that the suspect in this shooting incident, Gabriel Dewitt Wilson, is now in police custody. The Nassau County Police Department is investigating an incident that occurred on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11:19 a.m. in West Hempstead. According to Police, there has been an active shooter incident at the West Hempstead Stop and Shop, located at 50 Cherry Valley Avenue. Three people have been shot. A male victim, 49, has been pronounced deceased at the scene by a Police Medic. The other two gun-shot victims have been transported to an area hospital. The Nassau County Police Department is canvassing the area and nearby schools have been notified to lock out and secure their buildings.

The Nassau County Police Department in New York announced on Tuesday that it has apprehended the suspect in the Stop & Shop shooting that left at least one person dead.
In a tweet, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran wrote that the suspected shooter, who was previously identified as 30-year-old Gabriel DeWitt Wilson, is in custody. The Nassau County Police Department confirmed the arrest in a tweet from its own account, saying, the subject has been apprehended and taken into custody. Our thoughts are with those who were killed and injured today.
