Curran Hosts Pop-up Roosevelt Vaccination Day in Partnership with Northwell Health

The vaccination day, in partnership with Northwell Health, aims to vaccinate 500 eligible members of the Roosevelt community as a part of the County’s ongoing effort to ensure an equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.   “Equitable access to the vaccine remains a priority and today’s Roosevelt pop-up is another way Nassau County is making sure every resident has their shot at getting the shot.  As eligibility has opened to all residents 16 and older, it is more important than ever to continue to expand vaccine access and get doses of this lifesaving vaccine into arms. County Executive Curran and Police Commissioner Ryder Announce Creation of PAL Program for Roosevelt Community

Photo by: Nassau County Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder were joined by the Roosevelt PAL Board and community members to formally announce the creation of a new Police Athletic League (PAL) program for the Roosevelt community. In addition to establishing this new unit, the County Police Department donated $25,000 from Asset Forfeiture funds to assist with startup costs. Currently, the Nassau County Police Department provides officers to oversee 32 PAL units and interact with the youths in communities through sports, crafts, educational programs, and more.   Under County Executive Curran’s leadership, new PAL units have been established in Elmont, Lawrence, and now Roosevelt – the first new offices opened in over 50 years.

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran Calls for Major Expansion of Veterans Healthcare and Housing

Photo by: Nassau County Nassau County Executive Laura Curran announced that she is seeking $85 million in federal infrastructure funding to expand healthcare and housing for veterans. The funding would assist Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) renovate facilities to include veteran’s in patient services and specialized care, as well as establish a Veteran’s Adult Day Health Care Program and make upgrades to unoccupied apartment buildings located on NHCC’s East Meadow Campus to house veterans suffering from housing insecurity.   The funding would preserve NHCC’s role as the region’s only public safety net healthcare system and establish an important satellite to the Northport VA Hospital for thousands of veterans who require treatment but find it out-of-reach due to distance constraints.
