CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - The Cabarrus County Board of Elections has begun a routine voter list maintenance process, as required by state and federal laws. To keep voter rolls accurate and up to date, local officials are tasked with removing voters who have moved, died or are otherwise ineligible to vote in Cabarrus County. Those who have been inactive for four or more years are required to confirm their status.
CARTERET COUNTY â Property owners are reminded they have until Tuesday to pay property taxes before theyâre considered delinquent and begin accruing interest.
Beginning Wednesday, any unpaid taxes on real and personal property will accrue interest at a rate of 2% for the month of January, plus three-quarters of a percent each month thereafter until the bill is paid. Those penalties apply statewide. Bills are mailed out every year in early August, with taxes due and payable Sept. 1, giving residents roughly a three-month window to pay them penalty-free.
Carteret County Tax Administrator Sarah Davis said the end of December is one of the busiest times of year for the countyâs tax office as people scramble to get their payments in before the due date. The office had been keeping some employees home and limiting drop-in visits due to the coronavirus pandemic, but Ms. Davis said the office fully reopened Dec. 29 for walk-in traffic to account for the uptick in activity.
PITTSBORO The Chatham County Tax Office reminds those owning real estate that personal and business property as of Jan. 1, 2021, must be listed with the Tax Office no later than Feb. 1, 2021. Listings received after this date will be subject to a late listing penalty equal to 10 percent of taxes owed.
Forms will be mailed out, but property owners also can pick up forms at the Tax Office in Pittsboro or download a 2021 listing form at chathamnc.org/TaxForms. Property owners who do not receive their listing form by Jan. 20, 2021, should call 919-542-8250 to make arrangements to list property by the deadline.
