The warning stems from growing reports of alligator sightings in rivers, lakes, streams, and back yards. Officials estimate they received about four calls a week from people in the area spotting alligators in the waterways. Dave Hilbert said he was walking along a stream in Martin Marietta Park in New Bern when he saw an alligator. Hibert said the alligator was only a few feet away from where he was standing.
